Today's conversation is with Kevin Frank
Kevin is a Certified Advanced Rolfer(TM), Rolf Movement (R) Practitioner, and Rolf Movement Instructor for the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration. He has worked with the Hubert Godard-derived Tonic Function model since 1991 and has written on this topic from 1995 to the present. Kevin advocates for an ‘information system’ view of structural integration, to help bring the SI field into congruence with modern understanding of motor control and perceptive/coordinative processes.
Kevin is the co-author (with Caryn McHose) of How Life Moves, Explorations in Meaning and Body Awareness (North Atlantic 2006) https://amzn.to/3ddDZKd
Kevin became a Rolfer in 1987, drawn to the work having spent two decades in Zen practice and inquiry and then looking for a profession built around fostering awareness to the present moment.
In today's conversation we spoke about Rolf Movement, the dichotomy of pure structural vs movement "Rolfing," Tonic Function theory, the movement brain, interdisciplinary holistic health, and a ton more. Episode 38 - Conversations with Jim Asher
Monday May 24, 2021
Monday May 24, 2021
Today's conversation is with Jim Asher
Jim Asher is an internationally recognized Rolf Institute® instructor and practitioner. He offers Advanced Rolfing, Rolf Movement Integration and cranial sacral therapy.
Jim has been a certified Rolfing Instructor since 1974. He trained with and assisted Dr. Ida Rolf. He studied spinal mechanics with many D.O.’s, including Philip Greenman.
The founder of the Colorado Cranial Institute and he is a member of the International Association of Structural Integrators. He continues to enjoy practicing in the city of Boulder, Colorado.
Nikki and I sat down to talk with Jim Asher and learn some history of both Dr Ida Rolf and the work she laid out... Lots of good and largely unheard stories included here.
The sound quality did not come out as great as it was being in person, and while we do apologize for this, the quality of content that Jim shares is beyond priceless. There was also a street performer outside and you'll hear occasionally people cheering for him.
In doing the editing, I decided to keep much of the talk as it was. While some stories repeat and some are circuitous, they are real and as stated from Jim himself and it felt important to me to keep it this way.
This is a longer than usual talk of ours and may be best enjoyed in sectional doses.

In 1999 Kelly opened the Kane School of Core Integration, in New York City. The teacher training programs at The Kane School are singular in their emphasis on developing teacher’s anatomical knowledge and palpatory skills while exacting an understanding of the classic Pilates repertory.
Kelly is currently developing a program for women in their "Prime Time" to optimize their health towards manifesting a legacy for themselves, their families and future generations. Post menopausal women are an untapped national treasure. Kelly's mission is to help women understand their unique biology after fertility towards optimizing well being, strength and power.

It’s a shorter talk and nice to have solely a “host” conversation.
As always, we love to hear how all of our conversations are landing with you as well as other ways we can provide more for your benefit.

Episode 28 - Conversations with Dr Biko Mandela Gray
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Today's Conversation is with Dr Biko Mandela Gray.
Dr. Gray’s work operates at the nexus and interplay between continental philosophy of religion and theories and methods in African American religion. His research is primarily on the connection between race, subjectivity, religion, and embodiment, exploring how these four categories play on one another in the concrete space of human experience. He also is interested in the religious implications of social justice movements. He is currently working on a book project that explores how contemporary racial justice movements, like Blacklivesmatter, demonstrate new ways of theorizing the connection between embodiment, religion, and subjectivity.
You can find out more about Biko at twitter.com/BikoMandelaGray
In today's talk we open a conversation into a reason why bodywork may be a largely by-white for-white practice, Dr Gray share some historical and philosophical reasons why he believes this may be the case. We dive into so much that the talk just really needs to be listened to. There is a lot to unpack from this one and we're happy to share this for yours and the world's benefit.

Episode 27 - Conversations with Carol Agneessens
Monday Oct 19, 2020
Monday Oct 19, 2020
Today's Conversation is with Carol Agneessens
Carol earned her Masters degree in special education from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Teaching learning challenged teens and adults gave her a deep appreciation for the depth and power of kinesthetic learning and intelligence. This is one of the ways many Rolfing students learn ... anatomy, tissue quality and whole body connection.
Carol began training at the Rolf Institute in 1981. She has been in private practice for 38 years. In addition to Rolfing, her practice includes cranial sacral therapy and movement. In 2019 she resigned from the Rolf Institute faculty after teaching basic, advanced and Rolf movement trainings for many years. She is the author of the book: The Fabric of Wholeness.
A desire to gain a deeper understanding of the cranium ( beyond 7th hour dynamics) led her to an in depth study of the cranial sacral system and embryology. With her colleague Ray McCall, she teaches foundational trainings in cranial sacral therapy.
You can find out more about Carol at holographictouch.com
In today's talk we dive straight into anti-racism somatics, our cultural imprints, Carol's history with The Rolf Institute and how her movement and structural work evolved into Biodynamic Craniosacral and Embryology work and where it is unfolding now. Nikki's umbilical hernia, yield, SI for Anti-racism, and more.
There is a lot to unpack from this one...
We had audio connectivity issues and apologize for any poor sounding moments.

Episode 26 - Conversations with Judith Aston
Monday Oct 12, 2020
Monday Oct 12, 2020
Today's Conversation is with Judith Aston.
Judith is widely recognized as a pioneer in the art and science of kinetics for her discovery of the Aston® Paradigm. Her distinct biomechanical model for the human body is based on a unique way of seeing the body in relationship to the earth. Her discoveries about the importance of using the forces of gravity and ground reaction in alternating sequences has transformed many systems of exercise, bodywork, and movement education. Her acute ability to “see” the body in stillness and in motion, and to train others to see, established her discipline of bodywork and movement training.
In today’s conversation we talk about her inspirations, Judith's lifetime dedication to creativity and problem solving, some stories of her Esalen Somatic "Gang," Judith's way of seeing, a short movement experiential, functional holding patterns, working with children, Aston World Movement, her new book and how one could study with her.
